Ezra John: 6 Months

It's hard to believe that I have been a full time mother for the last six months. It seems like the blink of an eye, yet the longest six months of my life. So much has changed, so many new memories. So much joy and happiness a baby brings! My husband and I often make comments about how we can't imagine life with Ezra. It's crazy how someone so small can be such a huge part of your life!

At six months, Ezra is a happy, healthy, very chubby little guy! He is 21 lbs, 5 oz and 25 inches long. Short and chubby. ;) He still hasn't cut a tooth, but continues to teethe. It doesn't seem to bother him much, and besides a lot of drool and constantly chewing, he doesn't react much to it.

We started on solids right around six months, and he has had sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, squash, applesauce, pears, watermelon, grapes, and bananas, as well as many other tastes of food! His favorites so far are sweet potatoes and pears. He also really likes Plum Organics veggie puffs and rice rusks.

Ezra is sitting very well now, and he often sits and plays with toys for long periods of time without tipping over. He also rolls from his tummy to his back and occasionally his back to his tummy. He almost always sleeps on his side now.

He has a pretty consistent schedule for sleeping these days, which is a blessing for all of us! He goes to bed at right about eight every evening, sleeps until four, nurses, and goes back down until between six and seven. He still takes at least one long, 2 + hour nap a day and a couple other short naps.

He still plays a lot with his favorite toys, links, his elephant and teething toys, and really enjoys being in the exersaucer.

Ezra John: 5 Months

I was determined to not fall behind on these updates agin, and to get Ezra's 5 month update written up before he was 6 months. I made it... by a few days. :P Heh.

Ezra had a busy month... he travelled to Texas by car and Wyoming by plane! He did really well on both trips, and everyone thought he was so adorable and fun! We tend to agree. ;)

Ezra started to try sitting up this month, and is getting better at it every day! He still does the "gorilla" sitting some, where he leans forward on his hands to keep his balance.

He still loves his play mat, and has recently started to enjoy his new johny jump up and exersaucer.

Ezra is such a sweet joy! He is a very happy baby, and almost has a slobbery grin for you! He is very sociable and will smile and jabber at anyone, even total strangers! He is getting better at sleeping at night again, and since we came back from WY he has been sleeping through the night, or only getting up once in a 8-10 hour stretch. That makes for one grateful mama! ;) He still naps at least two hour plus naps, and usually a few other shorter ones depending on whether we are home or not.

Ezra is still in our room for now, sleeping in his cosleeper. I am hoping to transition him upstairs into his own room once we get the nursery remodeled and he is sleeping through the night consistently, probably this late fall.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to do a big photoshoot this month since we were just so busy, but here are a few shots from his adventures. :)

On our way to TX to meet his cousin!

Ezra John: 4 months

Only a couple weeks late with this one. ;)

Ezra is such a joy! He is a very sweet, happy boy. He is quick to smile and laugh and just about anyone, including strangers! He can be very social, but also needs his alone time. Like his parents. ;)

He has started a high pitched screech when he's happy, and he does it often, interspersed with happy little giggles and chatters while he playing with toys or when we talk to him.
Speaking of talking, he now says "hi" as his first word! He is still pretty sporadic when and how well he will say it, but he will distinctly look you in the eye and say it. It's pretty adorable. ;)

Last week we went on a long road trip down to Texas to meet his new cousin, Eleanor Lane, and back up to a wedding. He did so well in the car for many long days of driving, and it was so cute to see him with Eleanor and watch him get lovingly passed around.
He is really into toys these days, and his favorites are simple ring toys and his crinkly teething elephant.

He is getting better at supporting himself, and can almost sit propped.

Here are his 4 month pictures! :)

Ezra John: 3 months

I figured I would fall behind on these. :P Ezra is nearly 4 months, but here is his 3 month post anyhow.

Ezra is now 17 lbs. 23.5 inches long, and is full of curiosity! He has started batting at toys and is figuring out eye-hand coordination.

He has gotten better at holding his head up and moving it from side to side, and he is constantly wanting to be involved with everything!

He is usually a pretty happy boy and it's easy to get a smile or a giggle out of him. :)

My little froggie baby!

We are really enjoying the warmer weather finally, and Ezra and I have gone on some good walks already, and spent many hours out in the sunshine.

It's finally tank top weather! :)

One of my very favorite pictures of Ezra, I just wish I had taken it with a good camera!

Ezra John: 2 months

Okay, so I'm kind of behind, and Ezra is actually more like 10 weeks. ;) What can I say, his cuteness distracts me. Heh.

Ezra is such a sweet, precious little chubber. We affectionately call him Nemo, because when he wears orange he looks like the fat little fish off of Finding Nemo.

He has grown to 15 lbs, 23 inches long, coming up on doubling his birth weight. Everyone always says they grow so fast, and it is so true! I can't believe how big he has gotten. His personality is really starting to come out, and it is so fun to see! He loves his daddy, and will cuddle with him, but he doesn't often cuddle with me, he is usually asking to eat when I hold him. ;)

Besides recovering from a nasty cough and cold, he has been in good health and is doing great at sleeping at night. He goes to sleep about 8:30 and sleeps until about 3 or 4, nurses for a little bit then goes back to sleep for a few more hours. He also takes a couple long naps a day, and is very content to lay next to me on the bed or in his swing and look out the window or at toys.

We just got a Boba 3G carrier in the mail today, and so far we both love it!

Here are his two month pictures...

He loves his daddy! :)

Birth Story

Ezra's Birth Story
January 12, 2013

Ezra John: 1 month

My little boy is one month old already. I have been a mother for a month. My amazing husband has been a father for one month.

So much has changed since mid January. I have learned so much. Grown in so many ways. Realized how selfish I really am. Struggled, cried, grieved. Laughed, cried with joy. Cuddled my sweet baby boy for hours. Spent countless hours nursing and nourishing him. Watched my husband bond and fall in love with his son, and become the patient, loving father I always knew he would be.

Motherhood is HARD. Everyone tells you that, but it's so true. I don't think I was quite prepared for just how difficult it would be. It frustrating and nerve wracking and emotional. It can be thankless and inconvenient.

But what joy! What joy to know the Lord has blessed you with the incredible burden of loving and bringing up a little person. What a blessing, what an amazing challenge!

I may (and probably will not) never be the mother I want to be. A patient, wise, fun parent my son respects and adores. But I'm sure going to try.
